How can I get my iPod to work again?

My iPod died, so i plugged it in & everything... But it didn't say it was my iPod & w/e so i ejected it & plugged it back in a few times but it was still being screwy, saying everything was N/A & all that.. So i'm thinking what the hell ? & the only thing i can do that it'll let me do is "restore" ... so i think well maybe it'll fix it.. so i click restore & it was doing fine.. but then all of a sudden it says something about it not being able to restore.. then just stops.. & my iPod is frozen with the apple & loading bar on it.. all night... & iTunes won't detect my iPod.. how do i fix this ? how do i get it to work ? my iPod is like my baby lol, i need it =[ please help !
